Wendy's court trial is currently set to begin on 3/29/21. As always, this is subject to change, but as the date comes closer, we wanted to take this opportunity to update all the amazing supporters.

Courtney Lewis, the prosecutor previously assigned to Wendy's case, has left her position with the Kern County District Attorney's Office and a new prosecutor has been assigned. Deputy District Attorney Eric L. Smith has taken over the case and we want to show him personally how much support Wendy has.

Ways to take action:

Contact Kern County District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer and Deputy District Attorney Eric L. Smith to demand justice for Wendy.

Email: czimmer@kernda.org and esmith@kernda.org

Please BCC any emails to justice@justiceforwendy.com so Wendy may use emails in court.

Call: (661) 868-2340

Example Phone Script:

My name is [xxx]. [If applicable, I'm affiliated with / member of xxxx organization.]

I am calling to urge DA Cynthia Zimmer to drop the charges against Wendy Howard. Survivors should not be punished for defending their lives and the lives of their children from domestic violence. We call on you to protect survivors rather than contributing to the ongoing traumatic consequences of domestic violence.

End the abuse-to-prison pipeline in Kern County. Show your commitment to survivors of domestic violence: Drop the charges against Wendy Howard!

Support Letters:

Write a letter in support of Wendy. Please send support letters to justice@justiceforwendy.com. Support letters will be used as part of a social biography packet to be presented to the court.

Example Letter:

Dear Honorable Judge,

I am signing this letter on behalf of Wendy Howard. Ms. Howard is the victim of domestic violence and suffers from PTSD and anxiety due to the abuse she has endured. She acted out of self-defense to protect herself, her children, and grandchildren. She has no criminal history and does not deserve to be criminalized and prosecuted in this case.

I humbly ask that the court drop the charges against Ms. Howard. She is a loving mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is a kind person and goes out of her way to help others, she volunteers on a regular basis, and is active within her church community. She needs to be home with her family.

Your time and consideration is much appreciated. Please drop the charges against this innocent mother.

Respectfully,

First Last
