Good evening / Noswaith dda!
Thank you so much for supporting my petition to keep Trearddur Bay public toilets open year round - I really appreciate it!
I know it sounds a bit weird but these toilets are close to my heart! I used to catch the bus to Holyhead County School in front of the block and I paid for the paintings on it to be revamped a couple of years ago (as part of the refurb) because I think they're an important contribution to our community.
There seems to be a perception that Trearddur Bay is "just for the summer tourists" so the toilets don't need to be open year-round. You only have to be on the beach on a half-decent day in the middle of winter to see how wrong that is - there are so many local people that love to spend time here too.
Covid showed us just how important our open spaces are to our mental and physical wellbeing. It is truly disappointing that Anglesey Council persists in keeping the public toilets closed in Trearddur Bay (and other "holiday hotspots" on our island) regardless of the demand from local people as well as visitors.
By keeping the public toilets closed the Council makes Trearddur Bay far less accessible to people who need to have a loo available - whether that's because of a medical condition, age (young or old!) or for any other reason. I think that's just unfair to local people, coastal path walkers - and visitors adventurous enough to come "out of season"!
Thank you again for being amongst the first couple of hundred people to sign the petition. Please please share it amongst friends and family. The more support we get, the greater our power to do something about it.
Kind regards
Bethan
