Delighted to tell you that after 30 months the road is now finally open again. So walkers, cyclists and motorists can once again enjoy the peaceful, beautiful and safe route along the west side of Thirlmere. Many thanks to everyone who supported the Keep Thirlmere Open campaign. 

There are many lessons to be learnt on the part of United Utilities who own the land (but not the road), Cumberland Council & Highways, the Lake District National Park, the Department for Transport and the other bodies who have responsibility for maintaining and protecting public rights of way. I will be trying my best to ensure these lessons are indeed learnt such that this sorry saga does not repeat in future.
