The combined effect of the Keep Thirlmere Open Petition (nearly 11,000 signatures), the Letters of Objection to the Road Closure (2,310 were submitted), a very successful protest rally and Cumberland Council legal action have all encouraged United Utilities to spring in to action. This gives us hope that the Road along the West side of Thirlmere will be reopened in the next few months. However we are not at all complacent and will be keeping a very close eye on the progress made towards this goal. United Utilities have helpfully now published a project plan and regular progress reports on their website, which can be seen here :
Storm Arwen was two years ago today. We have had a very long wait to see action commence on reopening this road, but we do hope that we wont have to wait many months longer before full and unrestricted access for walkers, cyclists and motorists is restored. Thanks to every one of you for supporting this campaign, we would not got here without your input.
