Thank you to everyone who has continued to support the campaign to restore the name Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.

Following the recent Council meeting, Councillor Peter Ristevski has confirmed that the motion to restore the Casula name was defeated after the Liberals and Councillor Peter Harle voted against it.

Councillor Ristevski has advised that the matter cannot be brought back before Council for several months. However, he has also committed to working with the community on a major campaign leading up to its return to Council, with the goal of securing enough support for the motion to succeed.

Councillor Peter Harle has stated that he continues to support the current name, Liverpool Powerhouse, arguing that the decision was based on an independent report and that he believes it serves the broader interests of the community. He acknowledged that some Casula residents prefer the former name but maintains his support for the existing decision.

While this outcome is disappointing, it is far from the end of the campaign.

The strong community response over recent months has demonstrated that many residents value the history, identity and cultural significance of the Casula name. Over the coming months, we will continue engaging with the community, gathering support, and ensuring that Councillors understand just how important this issue is to local residents.

This campaign has always been about preserving local identity and respecting the history of one of Liverpool's most iconic cultural institutions.

Stay tuned for further updates and opportunities to get involved.
