On the 19th of January, the Board of Trustees of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History voted unanimously to preserve Mississippi Landmark Status for the former Meridian Police Station. While this is wonderful news, it is just a reprieve. If the former Meridian Police Station doesn't find a new purpose and organized group of advocates, its fate will ultimately be demolition; eventually enough decay will have happened that a change in status will be justified and the City of Meridian will move as swiftly as possible to demolish the building.
