Contacts (and some potential messaging to support the pool):
Evergreen President John Carmichael: President@Evergreen.edu
Evergreen Board of Trustees: Trustees@Evergreen.edu
- We just need TIME to develop a plan and get groups together to save the pool.
- The pool is an important resource for Evergreen State College, and also one of the few remaining interactions that Evergreen had with the community.
- The alumni and students haven't been fully informed of the closure.
- There is community support to save the pool.
City of Olympia City Council: citycouncil@ci.olympia.wa.us
City of Tumwater City Council: Council@ci.tumwater.wa.us
Olympia School Board: osd-schoolboard@osd.wednet.edu
Thurston County Commissioners: amy.davis@co.thurston.wa.us
Olympia Port Commissioners: Commissioners@portolympia.com
- Keep talking to Evergreen, and keep asking questions. There is a solution to be found, that involves them.
- The cost of heating, chemicals and maintaining the pool is closer to $100k than $250k.
- There is not a solution within the next two decades and costing less than $50M. We need a pool now, not eventually, maybe.
State legislators:
Jessica Bateman: jessica.bateman@leg.wa.gov
Beth Doglio: beth.doglio@leg.wa.gov
Lisa Parshley: Lisa.Parshley@leg.wa.gov
- There is a community solution, and we just need time to help build this solution.
- Legislators, as the funders of the college, should reach out to the college to request more time for the community to find a solution
