The issue

This is a cause that I hold dear to my heart. Like so many others, I have fond memories of the sense of adventure, camaraderie, and personal growth that came from participating in school camps. Unfortunately, it seems that recent changes have threatened the tradition of annual camps in year 8 and 11, and this is, honestly, devastating.

School camps are more than just a break from regular classes; they play an integral part in our education. A study from the Australian Institute of Family Studies highlighted that these camps can improve students' social and emotional learning skills, something that standard classroom learning doesn't always foster (AIFS, 2018).

Moreover, the camp experience is much-awaited by every student. It breaks the monotony of regular academic curriculum and enables students to learn various life skills in a relatable, practical environment. The joy of camaraderie, the thrill of the great outdoors, and the sense of accomplishment from overcoming outdoor challenges are truly unmatched.

Sadly, the discontinuation of the tradition of annual camps in year 8 and 11 fabricates a void in our curriculum that strips our students of these experiences.

I urge the school authorities to reconsider this change and reinstate the camps for year 8 and 11. Let us ensure that future generations have the opportunity to make cherished memories and learn unique skills, as we did. Please, take a moment to sign this petition to support the incorporation of camps in the curriculum of year 8 and 11.
