At the beginning of this school year, students were informed that individual sports competition kits would now cost approximately 80 CHF per student, per sport.

While we understand that sports kits have costs, requiring students to pay for each kit creates an additional financial barrier to participating in school sports. A student competing in two sports could pay around 160 CHF, with even higher costs for those involved in three or more sports or for families with multiple children participating.

Students should not have to choose which sports they participate in based on their family’s ability to pay.

Sport is an important part of school life. It helps students build teamwork and leadership skills, make friends, stay active, and feel connected to the school community. Competition kits being provided without an additional charge allowed students to focus on training, competing, having fun and representing their school rather than worrying about the cost of their uniform.

We believe school sports should remain accessible to every student, regardless of how many sports they participate in or their family's financial circumstances. Thus this petition applies to all school competition sports including football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, swimming, tennis, badminton, and others.

Students should be encouraged to participate in more activities, not discouraged by additional kit costs for every sport they join.

We call upon the students, parents, and staff to reconsider the new sports kit charges and work with the students to find a solution that accommodates everyone.
