Professor Fink, the extremely popular and influential professor of free speech at UCLA, has been ousted by the Interim Dean of Social Sciences, Laura E. Gómez. Despite failing to offer any concrete reasons for the decision, Gómez (who has legal training) apparently failed to ignore Fink’s repeated requests that his case be handled with fairness and due process in mind. The decision appears to be “entirely politically motivated,” following repeated attempts by Kerri L. Johnson to dishonestly justify limitations on his class size and subject him to a “star chamber” review process. Fink noted that his treatment within the Department had always been fair — and that his prior Department Chairs were supportive of him, so much so that they asked him to develop numerous new courses. “My support within the Department inexplicably took a turn for the worse after the appointment of Kerri Johnson and Greg Bryant to Chair and Vice Chair, respectively, last year,” Fink wrote in a statement to the College Fix. Despite this unfortunate news, the fight does not stop here. Among other actions, Fink will be establishing a non-profit to provide free legal services for UCLA students and teachers whose rights have been violated.
