As first reported by the Daily Wire, popular UCLA professor Keith Fink has been released from his teaching duties at UCLA. In a five-sentence letter dated June 27, 2017 written by Interim Dean of Social Sciences Laura E. Gómez, “it has been determined that [Fink’s] teaching does not meet the standard of excellence.” No further rationale was offered. This comes on the heels of Fink’s seven-page letter to Gómez articulating numerous procedural and substantive issues with the review process — all of which she appears to have ignored. The most logical inference is that Gómez opted to simply ignore Fink’s arguments because her interim post as Dean was ending three days later, on June 30 — permitting her the convenience of punting the inevitable backlash to her predecessor.
