Houston First is moving quickly to permanently close Polk Street—but they still need City Council approval. And Councilmembers are listening. Over the past few weeks, we’ve met with several of them, and many are rooting for us. Their advice? Show up in force at the evening City Council session on Tuesday, September 16.

Momentum is building. Just look at the leaders standing with us—like State Rep. Jolanda Jones, who’s been making national headlines for her fight against redistricting, and Former Council Member Robert Gallegos, a longtime champion for Houston’s East End. Check them out rocking their People for Polk t-shirts! This movement is growing—and it’s powered by neighbors like you.

Speaking in front of council is actually not too hard, and you'll have a ton of support and friends with you. If you can even commit to just show up wearing blue, that will send a strong visual message even if you choose not to speak.
