Almost 7500 signatures in support!!! The Taupo and Rotorua rescue helicopters have received massive support from local MPs, district councils, businesses and so many members of our communities. Please take the time to read some of the comments on the petition to see just how many lives have been touched and changes by these services. I was working on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing yesterday when the Taupo helicopter came in to rescue a hiker with a broken ankle from the Emerald Lakes. This is a service that affects lives daily, not just every once in a while. I've been supplied a copy of the NASOtender document that seeks to eliminate the Taupo and Rotorua rescue helicopter bases and posted a copy on my blog [https://sjponeill.com/2018/04/07/saving-our-rescue-helicopters/] It is interesting reading, very aspirational but IMHO rather misleading in discussing current bases of air ambulance services - omitting Taupo and Rotorua. Please keep up all the work promoting this cause: these helicopters are vital to our communities. Please keeping contacting your Members of Parliament, the Ministers of Health and ACC, and the National Ambulance Service Office (NASO) that owns the proposal to remove our rescue helicopter bases from November this year.
