Dear Ponte Vedra Beach Campus Community,
I am elated to be writing to you today to share some outstanding news. As you know, we have been working closely with the PGA TOUR to identify an alternate site for the new cell tower, moving it further away from the Bolles Ponte Vedra Beach Campus.
Today, I received confirmation that a new site has been identified by the PGA TOUR. The site is located over 1,500 feet away from its current location further south of the campus. (Please see map here.)
The process from here will likely take several months during which the existing tower will continue to remain inactive. The first phase involves securing St. Johns County approval of a minor modification to the Planned Unit Development. That phase will consist of two separate hearings, with notices sent to affected landowners approximately two weeks before each hearing:
Ponte Vedra Architectural Review Committee (PVARC) is scheduled for Wednesday, November 20 at 5 p.m. at the Ponte Vedra Senior Center (175 Landrum Lane, 32082). PVARC is primarily concerned with the aesthetics of the tower and landscaping.
The Planning and Zoning Agency (PZA) is scheduled for Thursday, December 5 at 1:30 p.m. at the County Auditorium in the St. Johns County complex in St. Augustine (500 San Sebastian View, 32084). PZA will be focused on the actual location of the tower.
Because this proposed move is considered a minor modification, it will not require further approval by the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners.
Assuming PGA TOUR's minor modification is approved, the Federal regulatory approval process (FAA, NEPA, FCC) will begin along with the renegotiation of the two (2) private communications leases.
We will be in further contact prior to each of the scheduled hearings to provide you with input as to the most effective way to indicate your support for the proposed relocation to each of PVARC and PZA.
We are most pleased to have been able to work with the PGA TOUR in its efforts to find an alternative solution for the location of the tower. We will continue to keep you updated as we move forward with the new location. Thank you for your support and patience as we work through this lengthy process.
Respectfully,
Tyler Hodges
