Communication Update Regarding New 5G Cell Tower

The new 5G single pole cellular tower erected this week behind the Bolles Lower School Ponte Vedra Beach Campus soccer field fence is on PGA TOUR property.
It is a replacement tower for an existing cell tower that had existed for many years just 600 feet from the new tower.
The new tower 5G is not yet active but does include the county emergency communication system.
To our knowledge, the structure was properly permitted and approved by the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners for the PGA TOUR two years ago and they followed all federal and local regulations.
While nothing in writing in the way of a notice to the School has been discovered or known to exist, PGA TOUR officials assured Bolles administrators that the School and neighboring community was notified. According to St. Johns County records, a notice was sent to Bolles in August 2017, but no specific person was identified.
PGA TOUR claims they communicated with school officials prior to the tower’sinstallation, but these conversations did not involve discussions related to placing the new tower contiguous to campus.
The new tower was installed closer to the School than originally outlined and we plan a thorough investigation of this decision.
Any concerns or questions regarding the construction of this tower or the merits of its location should contact officials with the PGA TOUR and St. Johns County.
This is an issue of concern for the entire Ponte Vedra Beach Campus community.
The health and safety of all Bolles students, faculty and staff are our number one priority and we will be pursuing all avenues to ensure that is maintained.
While we realize this is a time sensitive issue, please allow Bolles officials to seek answers, learn options and hopefully, find a resolution.
Research as to the health risks or potential health risks is unknown and a statement from the American Cancer Society’s website.
