Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much for taking the time to sign my petition and support Mrs. Sprung!

Now that we have everyone's attention with this petition, and our showing at the board meeting Wednesday night, we want to keep the momentum going.

If you want to help us succeed with keeping Mrs. Sprung at Glenfield, here is a simple way to continue your support.

  • Please reach out to Superintendent Cooper and the Montclair Board of Education (who's emails are listed below) voicing your support for Mrs. Sprung, and ask that they reverse Mr. Vargas' recommendation to not renew Mrs. Sprung's contract for next year.
  • You can send your own message, or if it's easier, there's a form letter below that you can copy and paste.

Sending this email will help keep this issue on their minds and let everyone know just how important Mrs. Sprung is to the Glenfield community!

Thank you,

August

Form Letter to Copy/Paste:

Dear Superintendent Cooper and Members of the Montclair Board of Education:

We have learned that Ms. Sprung, the dance teacher at Glenfield Middle School, was informed that her contract will not be renewed for the 2025-26 school year.

This recommendation was made by Mr. Vargas, Interim Principal at GMS, and is not related in any way to budgetary concerns. Yet, Mr. Vargas gave no prior indication that he was displeased with Ms. Sprung’s work. Mr. Vargas did not consult students or parents regarding their perspective on Ms. Sprung as a teacher. He gave Ms. Sprung no coaching or suggestions to remedy any issues he may have had with her work. Up until now, Ms. Sprung’s work has never been found lacking, neither by him, nor by Principal Lisa Rollins (2022-2023) or by Principal Erika Pierce (2023-2024). She is one year away from tenure.

Ms. Sprung has brought youthful, modern energy to GMS and the greater Montclair community. The links included below to the highly successful student-initiated change.org petition, and an article by a Glenfield parent, are just a few examples reflecting the level of support she has. She is a favorite teacher of students and parents at GMS. Many elementary school students seek to attend GMS because they want to be taught by Ms. Sprung. Many Montclair High School students still list Ms. Sprung as a favorite teacher.

Mr. Vargas' decision would deprive Montclair students of a gifted teacher who naturally inspires students, works tirelessly to nurture them, and provides them with the necessary tools and opportunities to develop their skills, all while caring about them as individuals.

We, the petitioners, ask you, Superintendent Cooper and the Montclair Board of Education, to reverse Mr. Vargas’ decision and keep Ms. Sprung at Glenfield Middle School.
