Senator Wellman Responds with Commitment

Good news, Senator Lisa Wellman’s office has responded to our formal inquiry regarding HB 2266 with a commitment to collaborate on our priorities for keeping Mercer Island safe.

Key commitments include:

• Legislative Review: The Senator has committed to formally requesting a work session in the appropriate Senate committee to examine the impact of HB 2266 on smaller, geographically constrained cities.
• Corrective Legislation: The office is initiating the drafting process for a bill to address our specific concerns and has explicitly promised to involve us and other stakeholders throughout the development of this legislation before the 2027 session.
• Community Engagement: Senator Wellman is willing to host an informal in-person public listening session for 41st District residents and her office is currently coordinating with us to determine the best timing for this event to ensure effective community participation.
