Petition updateKeep McGuinness MovingNYC DOT presented to Brooklyn CB1 Transportation Committee on June 30, 2021
Keep McGuinness MovingBrooklyn, NY, United States
Jul 10, 2022

Residents and businesses showed up to testify against three proposals presented by NYC DOT.  All three proposals presented are centered around bike lanes. Not one proposal featured safety improvements without bike lanes. Make McGuinness Safe or NBK Transportation Alternatives, Assembly Emily Gallagher and CM Lincoln Restler used a pedestrian death (Mr. Jensen a pedestrian crossing at night against the light) to promote safety yet are advocating for adding a two-way bike lane which doesn't increase pedestrian safety and would not have altered the outcome of the fatality used to lead this campaign. The DOT reiterated several times including a bike lane will require removing parking and diverting traffic to side streets. While not including a bike lane, would allow signal timing, curbs and crosswalks to be addressed with less negative impact on the whole community.

Here is a link to the meeting (DOT McGuinness Presentation starts at 59min 05 secs) June 30, 2022 DOT Presents McGuinness Redesign to Brooklyn CB1

Note, Bronwyn Breitner, is a Transportation Alternatives activist and sits on the transportation committee with voting privileges but is not a CB1 board member despite seeming to run the meeting.

It is urgent local businesses and residents, especially voters, are made aware the NYC DOT is colluding with North Brooklyn Transportation Alternatives, NYS Assembly Member Emily Gallagher and CM Lincoln Restler to design a bike centric redesign (a small demographic as evidenced on the above recording) to create safety, traffic, environmental,  accessibility, quality of life issues for the surrounding area and community at large. Businesses will close and jobs will be lost. Sign our petition, write local politicians and spread the word.
