In just one day, this petition has passed 1,000 supporters.

That is an extraordinary first milestone, and I want to thank every person who has signed, shared, commented and helped spread the word.

Reaching 1,000 matters for more than the number itself. Change.org states on its platform that petitions with 1,000+ supporters are five times more likely to win. Our research also found broader evidence that visible public support can create a powerful momentum effect: academic research has found that higher signature counts act as a form of social proof, encouraging more people to engage with and sign a petition.

But 1,000 is not the finish line.

What has happened in the first 24 hours demonstrates that people care about this issue and that this campaign has the potential to reach far beyond its initial supporters.
