I am so incredibly grateful to Daniel Wu and Douglas MacMillan at the Washington Post for covering my story. I don't have the words to express how much it means to have them take the time to listen to the students affected by the ICE detention center opening right next to our majority Hispanic high school.

In early March, after reading an article written by Douglas MacMillan about GardaWorld not having any experience managing an ICE detention center, I reached out to him and began sending him regular updates on all my meetings with elected officials about my 3-mile buffer zone proposal. Thankfully, he listened to me and kept in contact with me.

After being invited to speak at Attorney General Kris Mayes press conference where she announced her lawsuit against DHS, Daniel Wu came all the way to Surprise to shadow me for a few days and talk to other students and local leaders.

Daniel and Douglas, thank you so much for taking the time to listen and report on this. You didn't have to tell our story, but you did. It means everything to me, the students of Dysart High School, and the residents of Surprise.
