Hello Fairyland Parents!
We are very excited to update you all about our plans for the Fairyland Town Hall Meeting happening this Thursday (April 18th) at 6:30pm at the Lookout Mountain City Hall. Over the last few days we have had to make a few adjustments to what this meeting will look like, and going forward, we would like to share this meeting as a “Fairyland Connect Evening”. Our goal is to bring Fairyland families together and we invite you to join us for a night of connection, information, and transparency. Come with all your questions about everything at Fairyland. We might not have all the answers, but if we don’t—we can help direct you to where you can find the answers. Here are a few things that will be discussed at the Fairyland Connect Evening:
1. School Council vs PTO: What is the school council? How does it work? When is the next meeting? How is it different from the PTO?
2. Attendance Policies: What does Walker County say the rules are about unexcused vs excused absences? How many absences is one child allowed to have?
3. Out of Zone/Out of District Policies: What are the policies about out of zone (OOZ) and out of district (OOD) attendance? Can an OOZ or OOD child stay throughout their elementary career?
4. School Waivers: What is a school waiver? What kinds of school waivers are being applied for in Walker County this year?
5. School Start Time: What is the new start time? Why are Walker County schools adding 15 minutes of extra time? Why is Fairyland adding 30?
6. Parental Involvement: When are parents allowed to walk their child to their classroom? How can I eat lunch with my child during school? What are some other ways I can get involved in my child’s school to help?
We have created an online e-invitation for the meeting. If you are planning on coming and could RSVP on the e-invitation it would help give us a better picture of how many people to expect will be attending and how many chairs to set up.
