The Buyer has been announced as Neeti R. Ray of CINA and Whiteoaks Communications Group Limited. The Owner of CJYE AM Joy 1250 and CJMR 1320 is the backup Bidder

It Still Needs to Go Through Court and CRTC approval.

CINA and Whiteoaks have been reputable broadcast companies for years however it does not meet the diversity of voices mandate of the CRTC for the Black Community.

Because of the Current World Beat Classification of the License, there is nothing stopping the station from becoming a full faith-based station.

This is now a question for the CRTC to answer. We cannot blame a broadcaster for wanting to advance their cause on the airwaves.

The CRTC will now have to answer whether the sale of the station going to this group further disenfranchises the Black Community and leaves them without a place on the dial to serve all aspects of the community. When the frequency protections were taken from the CBC and granted to Intercity Broadcasting to service the Black Community, are all the reasons still valid to this day? As you can see by the recent events over the last few months the reasons are more valid now than ever before for the Black Community to have its voice. If the CRTC chooses to approve the sale to Whiteoaks what concessions are the government going to make to ensure that the Black Community has a Broadcast voice in Toronto that advances not just the needs of the listeners but the careers of the artists and Blacks seeking access to the broadcast space.

The CRTC has promised to take this to a public process once they get the file. At that point, you may let your concerns or support for the sale be heard by submitting written interventions. The petition and political support letters will be submitted but it is your voices that will bring about change.  If Systemic Racism was Recognized in Canada for the Black and Indigenous Communities and the government saw fit to ensure that the Indigenous Community has a protected voice across the country then the Black Community also should have at least one, owned, and ran by us. In Canada, there are numerous South Asian and Christian Radio Stations but there is not one radio station format owned by the Black Community in Canada outside of the current G987. We need a station that is at a minimum of 51% Black-owned to ensure that our needs are met. It is important for the next generation to see us in a position of ownership in all spaces.
