Hi friends,
As supporters of this campaign, we want to make sure you're aware of two important events coming up shortly: including one tomorrow!
We hope they’ll be of interest and that you’ll be able to join us.
1. Oxford Unity March – Sunday 16th November
We are proud to be one of the endorsers of the Oxford Unity March, bringing together communities across the city to stand for welcome, compassion and solidarity.
This important march comes at a time when the reopening of Campsfield detention centre is imminent and against a wider climate in which migrants, refugees and people of colour have faced intimidation and hostility. This positive, family-friendly march is a chance to come together and say clearly that Oxford stands for hope not hate.
If you can, please join us, Sunday 16th November, and bring friends. :)
Assemble:
12.30pm
Templars Square Centre
Barns Road, Cowley
OX4 3RQ
For people with limited mobility:
• 1.30pm Manzil Way Green
• 2.15pm St Mary the Virgin Church, High Street
2. Keep Campsfield Closed – Demonstration on Saturday 22nd November
We would also love to see you at our annual demonstration at 12pm on Saturday 22nd November, outside the Campsfield gates on Langford Lane, Kidlington (OX5 1RE), calling for Campsfield to stay closed for good.
The government still intends to reopen the site by the end of this year, despite widespread local opposition and longstanding concerns about the harm caused by immigration detention. Local councils, community groups and many Oxfordshire residents continue to reject this move.
After the demo, we’ll head to Exeter Hall (OX5 1AB) for refreshments and a chance to connect and plan our next steps.
Getting there:
From Magdalen Street (Stop C4) in Oxford city centre:
S3 Gold 11.10–11.48 (Langford Lane West, +10 min walk)
S7 11.20–11.53 (Evenlode Crescent)
S4 Gold 11.25–12.04 (Langford Lane, +11 min walk)
Bring your banners, your friends and your voice.
Thank you for your continued support, and for standing with us,
The Coalition to Keep Campsfield Closed
