Survey highlights cuts in sexual health and HIV services

The Faculty of Sexual & Reproductive Heathcare has welcomed the Public Health England (PHE) report on the commissioning of Sexual Health, Reproductive Health & HIV services. https://www.fsrh.org/news/fsrh-press-statement-phe-srh-commissioning/ FSRH President commented that the PHE review confirms that deep cuts in specialist SRH services and fragmented commissioning are resulting in reduced access to contraception and other SRH services. BHU patients recognise that this is what is happening in Surrey NOW. Since the contract was awarded to CNWL, access to these services has been severely curtailed and the services themselves have been pared back to the minimum that CNWL can get away with. Which they have been free to do given the lack of effective scrutiny and understanding of Genito Urinary Medicine, sexual health and HIV services by the commissioners. NHS England have set up an online survey for patients and professionals who use BHU to "to help us understand your concerns". We have highlighted in the public meetings that the commissioners and Surrey County Council have a duty of care to the 15,000 patients at BHU and why there was no consultation with us from the beginning. Keep up the campaigning against the closure of the Blanche Heriot Unit - write to your Councillor, write to your MP, write to NHS England, Surrey County Council, the press, and make them aware of the consequences for highly vulnerable patients if the Unit closes. Ultimately they are accountable.
