GPs speak up for the Blanche Heriot Unit as support continues to grow

The Petition has stormed through the 1,500 mark and the number of signatories now stands at 1,667. Thank You. Many patients, their families and friends continue to post comments showing how much they value and depend on the service provided by the Blanche Heriot Unit. This recent comment from one patient is typical: “Blanche Heriot provides a quality of service and understanding that goes so far beyond medical needs and ultimately addresses the humanity underlying my position. I am always respected and never made to feel any stigma for this condition. They have crafted a wonderfully functional team that cannot simply be assessed in terms of a bottom line or fluctuating conditions. They are the essence of those values the National Health Service was initially intended to represent.” And local GPs are increasingly signing the Petition and expressing their concern. Dr Ruth Moore from Chertsey has posted this comment: “I work with many patients in the area and know that BHU is an invaluable service. The long term consequences of shutting it will be disastrous and more expensive in the long run with rises in infertility due to un-managed infection. Patients receive expert and necessary care at BHU. Patients will not travel to Guildford to be treated.” Surely it is time for Surrey County Council and NHS England to take note of the views of those they are meant to serve and lift the threat to the incomparable Blanche Heriot Unit!
