Обновление к петицииKeep Astoria Park Public: Protect Our Free Tennis Courts and Green Space

Tonight: please come to the Community Board meeting

Astoria TennisСоединенные Штаты
20 окт. 2026 г.

We have an update and a last-minute ask.

People have been spotted at the courts with laptops, and at least one looked like they were taking measurements. They may be vendors surveying the park. We also heard that someone who said they worked for Parks was surveying people at the courts and telling them the bubble would bring new lights. We think it is disingenuous how they are trying to sway people into filling out a survey in bad faith.

The RFP includes lights, and we don't need a bubble to get them. We asked for them at the last community meeting and sent the proposal to CB1 the next day. And there are other avenues as well that we can work on to get improvements and lights at our courts.

We now have support from Assemblymember Diana Moreno, Council Member Tiffany Cabán, Senator Kristen Gonzalez, and Community Board 1, plus over 4,000 signatures. Parks is still moving ahead and has moved our meeting to November after they review the bids.

PLEASE COME TONIGHT
Community Board 1 meeting
6:30 pm, The Marquee Astoria

I know it's last-minute, but our voice matters! We hadn't planned to be there tonight because of all the recent support. If you have time today, please come and speak up: Parks should talk with us in good faith, and they should not award any contract.

Can't make it? Please email your reps and tell them Parks should stop this proposal and award no contracts: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/pop-the-astoria-park-bubble

And if you see anyone at the park who may look like a vendor, let us know.  You may contact us at 424-260-4461 or email poptheastoriabubble@gmail.com.  Tell us what you saw, record a video, or take pictures.

Let's work together to keep parks public and Pop the Astoria Bubble.

Thank you!
