Keep 37 Emerald Hill

Emerald Hill was home to the Singapore Chinese Girls’ School for close to 70 years. Generations of girls went to school on this site, fulfilling its founders’ vision of providing a secular, Singaporean education for women. The campus still stands today, in largely the same state as when the school moved to Dunearn Road in 1994. However, it has no official conservation status, and the land is zoned entirely for residential use. This means that the buildings can be demolished as and when the land is considered needed for development.
We don't know when this will happen, but we don't want to wait till it's too late to Keep 37 Emerald Hill.
Please join us in our campaign to seek conservation status for SCGS at 37 Emerald Hill Road. Our intention is to submit a proposal to the Urban Redevelopment Authority in early 2019, highlighting the significance of the site from historical, social and architectural angles, and proposing options for conservation and re-use. We have the support of the school and Alumni, and a committed team of volunteers to drive this effort. But we need your support to show just how important the Emerald Hill campus is to the larger community. Whether you’re an SCGS student or teacher of past or present, a resident living at Emerald Hill, a business owner on Orchard Road, or a citizen unwilling to see another historical site make way for development - join us in demonstrating the value of this site and showing what its future could hold.
By signing this petition, I support the proposal to conserve the former SCGS campus at 37 Emerald Hill Road.
