SHALL THE NAME OF WOODROW WILSON BE REMOVED FROM WOODROW WILSON HIGH SCHOOL?

We the People of The City of Camden NJ bring forth this petition to have Woodrow Wilsons Name Removed from Woodrow Wilson High School and that the “Tigers aluminous Name be included in the Naming of the New PUBLIC School to preserve the History of the Tiger Alumni.

After years of examining the legacy of former US President Woodrow Wilson, WE have come to see that his views and actions contradict the values and diversity We see in Woodrow Wilson High School today as well as the society WE live in Camden NJ.

These values We hold today are to be respected at the highest standard in regards to fair treatment of All individuals, and our aspirations to continue to be an educating, diverse, inclusive, and welcoming community in the City of Camden NJ it is only right in Our Eyes to right the wrongs that have plagued Us in Our oppressed society.

To do so We must be honest with Our People about the truth of a School that was named after a white Supremacist who was a former US President and WE certainly cannot overlook the racial antics of this former U.S President nor the position he took as Princeton’s president to prevent the enrollment of black students along with  the policies he instituted as U.S. President that resulted in the re-segregation of the federal civil service. WE also examined the 1912 elections whereas the Democrats executive and legislative committee was handed control over Washington, many administrators and congressmen whom ALL arrived with a more specific goal of redeeming the capital for white supremacy.

“Long ago we determined that the Negro never should be our master,” explained one of Wilson’s administrators, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury John Skelton Williams. Williams vowed “stern, final, definite prohibition” of any “social or political equality.”

Wilson appointed white men to important executive positions usually held by leading black politicians, and racist bureaucrats went out of their way to humiliate, demote, and dismiss ordinary black clerks.

It was the end of Washington’s heyday as the center of elite black America; the nation’s capital now stood for a nationwide ethic of white supremacy.

These changes that occurred under the Wilson Administration drew not just from a belief in black inferiority but also the presumption that “racial mixing” caused corruption in American institutions. African Americans needed to be kept down because they were troublesome to the proper functioning of American society.

Equality and efficiency for white Americans was predicated upon racial segregation not by Our People nor Any other Poc and certainly not in Our City today.

To continue to have such a name on a school only aides as a continuous reminder of a true systemic oppression that has not only been foreseen by US as parents but also Now through the eyes of Our Children today.

Camden’s Mayor City Council along with the Camden City Schools Districts Superintendent and Advisory Board must openly and candidly recognize that Wilson, like other historical figures, leaves behind a complex legacy of both positive and negative repercussions, and that the continued use of his name on Woodrow Wilsons High School would certainly imply  no endorsement of  Our views and actions We shall take  towards the continuous liberation of Our People.

Furthermore, this conflicts with the values and aspirations of our times today as We see it but WE encourage each Of The elected Members named here in this Petition to embrace the coeducational, multi-racial, multi-ethnic, diverse and inclusive composition and ideals of our community today and they can do so by removing Woodrow Wilsons Name
