Lusher Charter School needs to change from the name of a segregationist, confederate.

The Issue

Lusher Charter School's name comes from former Louisiana Superintendent and Confederate Army member. Robert Mills Lusher, who served as a clerk of the Confederate States District Court and later as Superintendent. During his time he served as Superintendent he promoted segregation because it was a way to make sure that a good education was reserved for white people to maintain their dominance in society. The name Lusher Charter School is not only one that is disrespectful to the African American population at Lusher, but to the culture that has been cultivated in New Orleans as a whole.
