Thousands of migratory birds are being killed by lead toxicity from lead fishing baits every year in Ontario. Lead baits are banned in provincial parks and conservation areas, but not in the hundreds of fresh water fishing lakes in Ontario. Lead shot has been banned for migratory bird hunters, but wide spread use of lead baits remain unchallenged although there are lake and bird friendly alternatives available.
