Kamehameha Schools, Take Responsibility! E Hoʻokanaka!
The Issue
To date, over 30 former patients of Dr. Robert Browne, many of whom attended Kamehameha Schools between the 1950s and early 1980s, have sued the school, Browne’s estate and St. Francis Medical Center, where Browne was a psychiatrist, for “negligence and other alleged wrongdoing” in failing to fulfill their obligation to protect students from Browne’s sexual molestation. School officials have acknowledged that no thorough investigation was conducted, despite known allegations.
We demand that Kamehameha Schools come forth to offer a public apology to the victims and the community for failing to address the allegations and take proper action. We also demand that Kamehameha Schools take responsibility for past actions (or lack thereof), and seek justice, reparation and healing for those individuals who were violated decades ago.
In moving forward as an institution, we demand greater accountability for the safety and well-being of its students to ensure that acts like this never happen again.
