Johnson/Talanda Cottage - we need YOUR help!

First, thank you SO much for supporting our family in our endeavor to keep our family cottage.  We are most grateful.

We are coming to you humbly to ask for more help - the Kalamazoo County Commissioners will be voting on Tuesday, April 19th at their meeting, and WE NEED YOU THERE.  The meeting starts at 7:00pm at 201 W. Kalamazoo Ave., Kalamazoo MI 49007.

At this point, our family believes that four Commissioners will vote in our favor; however, it seems that four Commissioners plan to vote against us while three are undecided.  WE NEED SIX COMMISSIONERS TO VOTE IN OUR FAVOR.

This is where YOU come in.

We would be honored and so thankful to have you join our family at the meeting…we’d be happy to make you an honorary part of our clan.  There is great strength in numbers, and because some of the Commissioners have not listened to us, our hope is that a large crowd of concerned constituents may change their minds.

The meeting begins with an open comment time in which anyone may have the mic for up to three minutes.  If you come and want to share your thoughts with the Commissioners, we would be incredibly grateful.

The Commissioners will be voting on two things:

1. “necessity” (whether they believe that the County needs our private property for public use. This is a step toward condemnation), and

2. on moving $350,000 (of tax payers’ money) from the general fund to the parks fund to potentially buy my family’s property.  (Please keep in mind that this amount is far below market value, and this does not include the legal expenses that the County has incurred in going after my family’s property).

We realize this is a big ask.  We know that everyone is busy.  Would you please consider coming, though?  Think about this happening to YOUR family or YOUR property.  Realize that our county government, those elected officials whose job it is to represent ALL OF US, is going after a good family’s private property.  This is about all of us, because if the County can take our property, then they could do it to anyone.

Click the link below to find out who your Commissioner is and send them an email or give them a call to tell them that you expect them to vote NO on necessity and NO on the $350,000 of tax payers’ money being moved to the parks fund.  Let them know that you support my family in keeping our Johnson/Talanda family cottage.

Hope to see you in person on Tuesday!  SAVE the COTTAGE!
