A message from Séamus: Even before our Mattie was taken from us, the unethical practices of PWP / MSA Security attracted the attention of major New York City media. As a K9 handler who was there during the period described, I can testify that everything in the attached NY Post article is true.

The dogs are overworked, their handlers underpaid, and the work environment is suffused with a corporate culture that devalues family and sees the dogs as pieces of property no different than office furniture.

Why do handlers stick around for such abuse? Why not just get another job? Because this is not just any job. Our dogs are not just our work partners; they live with us and our families. They are bonded tightly to our hearts and the hearts of our loved ones.

And since the company knows this, and they legally own the dogs, this is what they use as leverage to get whatever they whim.

But the incentive for the handlers is that their dogs can retire with them and legally be what they already were in reality - a member of the family.

The K9 retirement date is not something set in stone, but something to be worked out with the company. There are some success stories (there would have to be, or no one would work for them). But there are just as many heartbreaks.

K9 Mattie's case, and that of many of my brother handlers and their dogs, shows that loyal service to the company means nothing to the corporate bosses.

Now that Mattie has been taken from us, the fight is to get her back. We will stand up to Perella Weinberg Partners' MSA Security, no matter how much money they have.
