The Issue

JUSTICE FOR THAÇI, VESELI, SELIMI AND KRASNIQI – FULL AND FAIR APPELLATE REVIEW

At a time when international justice must uphold fairness, objectivity and the rule of law, I call on citizens and relevant institutions to join this call for a full and fair appellate review of the cases concerning Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi.

We stand firmly in support of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi. We believe the judgment is unjust and call for a full, fair and impartial appeal process.

Fair judicial proceedings are a fundamental principle of any democratic society. The right to appeal is an essential safeguard that allows decisions at first instance to be reviewed by a separate and independent appellate panel.

We call for the full right of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi to appeal to be respected, and for every argument presented by the defence to be carefully, fully, independently and impartially examined.

We call for a thorough appellate review addressing all legal and factual issues raised by the defence, including any alleged errors of law, procedure or assessment of evidence.

We also call for the convictions and sentences to be overturned or revised if the Appeals Panel finds errors of law, fact, procedure or assessment of evidence that warrant such action.

This petition does not seek political interference in the work of the courts. It is a peaceful public expression of support for the defendants’ right to a genuine, thorough, fair and impartial appellate review through all legal remedies available under the law.

Every person facing a criminal conviction should have the opportunity to have that conviction properly reviewed through the established legal process.

Justice requires evidence, law and a fair process.
