Free Nick V., Age 20, of Harlan, IA

The Issue

Nick, Age 20, is a young man living in a restrictive and imprisoning group home in Iowa.  I have had contact with him up to recently, and because I was updating friends and Nick on what is going on with the justice process I was trying to set in motion as a responsible citizen, Nick got punished.  He lost his phone and email.  He was told not to contact me many times by staff members at the home, and the police somehow get involved and say  he acted in a disorderly manner, which I wasn't aware of.  I am petitioning all ye citizens of the United States to bring justice on his behalf and free him from all restrictions.  As a disabled man, Nick suffers from blindness, some autistic tendencies, and physical use of one hand, and because of an illegal guardianship which allows his parents to restrict him, he is not allowed to do something if told not to do it, and if he does, like a child, he gets punished.  The staff frequently get into fights with him, as he has reported to me, and the roommates he lives with are demographically too old.  He is intelligent and can make  conversation, yet the home said he had the mentality of a twelve-year-old.  I beg  all of you people to sign this because I could have been in a similar situation.  The dad called the cops on Nick, and because of this, he's being so isolated that only a community phone is accessible.  There is no consideration for good behavior in this matter, and his dignity and respect for him is less and less.  The parents plan to lessen his independence, and they have no good attitudes about Nick.  His dream would be to be free, to live with his girlfriend, Haley, age 22, of Illinois.  Nick also would benefit from better services and a better place, but not this one.  NOt in Iowa.  Please sign, it would make a big difference.  Thank you all for your consideration.
