All secondary schools' curriculums should include a school trip to a local cat/dog shelter
The Issue
We have rescued all of our pets from shelters, and the last time we went I cried for all the little ones I couldn't help.
However, my daughter told me that I had rescued not just our animals, but all the pets that she would go on to rescue, and all the pets that her sister would go on to rescue.
Why? Because they looked into the eyes of all those hopeful animals, and made a life-long committment to help in any way that they can.
It surprised me how few of my friends had ever visited a shelter, and how many would just buy from a breeder or pet shop without much thought. I believe that if all children were to visit a shelter as part of their curriculum, they would grow an awareness of the plight of these animals. Not only would it help them to become better people by fostering feelings of compassion & empathy, but on a practical level it would ensure that they are more aware of all the animals waiting for homes. The aim would be for the children & their families to consider the option of getting their pets from a sactuary before they go to a breeder.
Thank you for reading this, please sign and share far and wide, and let's help as many animals as we can find their forever homes.
