It has been 9 months since our last update, and we are happy to announce that Amena* and her son have safely fled from Afghanistan to Tajikistan after constant effort and struggle. Family and supporters are relieved that the direct threat on their lives, which resulted in the murder of their husband/father Dadvar*, is no longer present. However, mother and child are not out of harm’s way.
Living alone in a male-dominated country without residential status, Amena and her son face significant barriers and are extremely vulnerable. They are physically and emotionally weak after living in hiding in Afghanistan for almost two years and are suffering from trauma, exclusion and loneliness. It is a daily battle for survival.
This young widow and her minor child are in dire need of support, which their family in Winnipeg, Canada can provide. Now living outside of Afghanistan, they meet the requirements for resettlement as refugees under Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA).
Due to the fragile situation of these innocent lives, we call on Justin Trudeau, Ahmed Hussen and the Government of Canada to expedite the processing of this case as promised. Against many odds, Amena and her son made it safely to a second country. We appeal to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to keep their word and provide full support with the rapid processing of the case.**
We call on all supporters of Amena and her child to share the message above.** Contact your MP, Ahmed Hussen and Justin Trudeau by mail, email, or phone. Share this update on social media and with your contacts. Encourage others to sign this petition and share.
With hope and solidarity,
