Petition Update
Dr. Dan Small was interviewed by Travis Lupick of the Georgia Straight regarding the petition earlier today. They talked about specific examples of structural violence towards opioid users during the period of 2006 to 2015 (i.e. Bills C-65 and C-2: Respect for Communities Act). These Bills illustrate legislative violence towards opioid users in that they deliberately put in place onerous and unreasonable structural barriers for communities seeking to establish life-saving healthcare: supervised injection. These Bills undermined the spirit of the 2011 Supreme Court Decision that highlighted the role of supervised injection as a Constitutional Right (maintaining the security of the person under Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms).
Thank you to everyone that has supported and shared the petition.
