Hurricane Irma wreaked havoc on the island of St. Maarten this week. It hit the island on Tuesday evening and destroyed many homes, businesses and also the Princess Juliana International Airport. The island is home to many Canadian medical students who study at the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. We urgently need your help in coordinating the return of our colleagues to Canada!

Approximately 34 students along with their family members are currently taking shelter on AUC's campus at a category 5 building. They have been sheltering at this location since September 4th but have limited supplies for a large group which only increases in number with each passing day. The building they are staying in has sustained minimal damage but the conditions on the island will further deteriorate as supplies of food and water are running low. In addition to this, Hurricane Jose is expected to hit on Saturday.  AUC had made plans to ferry all students to St. Kitts for the purpose of flying them to the US, but it is impossible to execute this plan at the moment given the weather conditions. We are imploring for help in getting our Canadian colleagues home, from St. Maarten, St. Kitts or from the US once they land there.

Please sign and share this petition so that we can get the attention and help of Canadian government officials, and bring our fellow Canadians home!
