We're off to a great start, but there's so much work that needs to be done still.
Now, more than ever, we need to fight for the rights of Foreign Temporary Workers. Especially during Covid, they are still being forced to work, even while sick, and the illness is running rampant. There have been accounts within the news/media about outbreaks and deaths amongst our migrant workers.
Also in the news recently, a worker had opened up about how they are no longer allowed to leave the farm they work on. They cannot go to get groceries, go to church or leave to access some of the essential services they need. Instead, money for groceries is being taken out of their pay cheques. Never mind the fact that they are being denied basic rights, how can we be guaranteed that these businesses and companies are being fair in these deductions? This should not even be occurring in the first place, as long as these workers are following social distancing and health guidelines, they should be allowed to leave for services, same as everyone else.
