End door to door delivery by Canada Post
The Issue
Mail volumes in Canada have dropped dramatically and it makes no business sense to continue home delivery. Community mail boxes provide a reasonable solution for the vast majority of Canadians at a dramatically reduced cost.
It makes no sense to continue wasting the labor of 8000 Canada Post employees on this antiquated delivery method. We can put these people to better use at jobs that are actually necessary for the functioning of our modern economy and we can use the savings from the switch to concentrate on areas that Canada Post actually has a mandate to focus on.
I grew up in a community with super boxes and it was amazing. Mail was always delivered on time, securely with zero problems at a much, much lower cost to Canada Post than home delivery. The family with a wheelchair in the neighborhood had no problems getting their mail, they made an arrangement with a family friend to grab the mail for them and when that family friend was on holiday a neighbor stepped in to help.
Even if Canada Post keeps home delivery as a service for the very small fraction of people who actually need it, we would be much, much better off. Please join me in encouraging Justin Trudeau and Canada Post to reconsider their choices and continue the transition to super boxes.
