The recent death of Dr. Fred Roots, an outstanding Arctic scientist and explorer, brought tributes in the Canadian press and from colleagues around the world (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/fred-roots-was-modest-brilliant-and-a-legend-of-polar-exploration/article32686729/). Dr. Roots was a great supporter of Patricia Sutherland and her work, and it is appropriate to note the comment that he earlier made on this petition: “Dr. Sutherland's work has been and continues as a leader in research into Canada's pre-history. Her work benefits not only Canada but the whole world. Although she has trained many others , she herself is irreplaceable. I am greatly distressed that our national museum organization should arbitrarily decide its own historical narrative, terminating without explanation the outstanding investigations that have so enriched our country through new knowledge of its early inhabitants. Dr. Sutherland's work is unique, valuable to our understanding of our own prehistory.” Fred Roots, Sooke, Canada The Liberal government has still not taken action on this injustice of the Harper regime. Dr. Sutherland still needs your support and your encouragement of others to sign the petition, and/or to write the Prime Minister and the Minister of Heritage: The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau Prime Minister of Canada justin.trudeau@parl.gc.ca The Honourable Mélanie Joly Minister of Canadian Heritage Melanie.Joly@parl.gc.ca
