Comox MCTS Closes Today

I am still reeling from the news.The parliamentary committee did not recommend that the Comox MCTS station remain open, even after outages recently. They reported their findings in an alarmingly quick manner after their final meeting last week.I believe that someone was aware that the perception of closing the station would not have been good while the committee was still forming its recommendations. This is an ongoing issue. I think I have read every lighthouse and westcoast book out there, and have noticed that the struggle for funding has been a constant in Canada's history. I don't understand why funding for something so imperative is a problem. We live on a rugged coast, we live at the Graveyard of the Pacific. People ply our waters for work, pleasure and industry. We are on a fault line and near or in tsunami zones. It seems so irrefutable that we need to have adequate coastal protection. I have no intentions of giving up the fight. I fight with my pen and my words, but it's seeming a little ineffective lately. Still, it is my strength and I will continue to do it. And every time I see the adverse effects of this closure, I will shout it from the rooftops. It now becomes an effort to re-open the Comox MCTS station. In it for the long run. I don't want to have someone die or an environmental disaster to occur and know that I didn't do everything I could to lessen the chances of something like that occurring. The front page story of the Province newspaper proves that. It just wasn't enough--yet.
