Please support the new #NOPE petition against new and bigger jail in Ottawa

Dear Canadian prison construction moratorium supporters: We haven't yet received a response from the federal government regarding the submission of our petition submitted on 1 July 2017 calling for a Canadian prison construction moratorium. What we do know at this stage is that the federal government has commissioned master plans for infrastructure development at several Correctional Service Canada facilities (see http://www.parkin.ca/2017/02/parkin-awarded-institutional-master-plan-imp-project-by-correctional-service-canada-csc/). Provincial and territorial governments are also moving ahead with the construction of new facilities to cage human beings (scroll to the bottom of this webpage for a list of projects - http://tpcp-canada.blogspot.ca). With various penal infrastructure projects underway across the country, the Criminalization and Punishment Education Project's #NOPE / No On Prison Expansion Initiative is focussing its efforts on stopping a new and bigger jail planned for Ottawa where we're based. Please sign our new petition to the Ontario government demanding a halt to this project. In one week we have amassed 175 signatures on the paper version and almost 100 supporters online. With over 600 of you supporting the initial #NOPE petition, we want to get as many of you to support our current efforts as possible. If we can get a win here, we can take the lessons learned and stop carceral expansion elsewhere.
