People of Canada would like to appeal to all federal party leaders to amend Canada’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan introduced by the Prime Minister on March 18, 2020.

As situation dramatically changes every hour every day the economic impacts of the current pandemic are impossible to forecast. Unfortunately we can already see that the negative trend of these forecasts is more than clear. Lives of many, if not all Canadians, have started to change dramatically. This change has a little different name for everyone but just to name a few:

"I am infected and I have to stay in quarantine", "I work in a hospital and I have not slept for 24 hours", "I just lost my serving job for indefinite amount of time", I have to quit my job to take care of my old parents", "I don't know who will take care of my kids now that they have to stay home", "I have to close down my family bar", "I am out of the job and I don't have money for the next mortgage payment, rent payment, utility bill payment, student loan payment, car payment, business loan payment"

We have been asked by our government to cope with these changes that seemed almost impossible just a week ago. Although we appreciate the effort to stabilize the economy and support Canadians in these difficult times we do NOT find the proposed measures to be adequate nor to be the most effective for this crisis.

We believe that the government efforts should be steered towards giving money directly to everyone's hands in the shortest time of possible and for the entire duration of this crisis.

We therefore ask our government to replace the following policies (Temporary Income Support for Workers and Parents, Longer-Term Income Support for Workers and Income Support for Individuals Who Need It Most) under the Economic Response Plan with a uniform policy that would enable:

- Every adult to receive a direct cash deposit in the amount of $2,000 for each month of the crisis effective as of Monday on March 16, 2020.

- Every child to receive a direct cash deposit in the amount of $1,000 for each month of the crisis effective as of Monday on March 16, 2020.

This form of temporary universal basic income would provide immediate financial relief with no strings attached and would reduce bureaucracy and administrative burden associated with any other stimulus measure which is currently being proposed.

Similar policy is currently being proposed in the USA by former democratic presidential candidate @AndrewYang and by U.S House Committee on Financial Services Chairwoman @RepMaxineWaters (https://financialservices.house.gov/uploadedfiles/fsc_covid-19_legislative_package_-_03.18.20.pdf)
