On Friday your petition signatures and comments were hand delivered to the Lynchburg Office of Commonwealth Attorney in Virginia. Kayleb, his mom Stacey, Kelly Israel of the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network, and I were there together and were able to meet with media about Kayleb's case and the community's concerns.
This has been a long, difficult period of months for Kayleb and his family. Tomorrow afternoon Kayleb's case will be sentenced in court. We are hoping and praying for a favorable outcome - ideally for all charges to be dropped. Kayleb deserves to be able to move on with his life.
Having spent several hours in person with Kayleb and his kind, supportive family I am even further convinced that these charges are extremely inappropriate. Kayleb is a sweet young man who is respectful and very loved. He is thriving and happy in his new (private) school because he is being treated with respect and his needs are being properly accommodated. What happened to him should have never happened.
If you are willing, I would like to ask one favor of you. Kayleb likes frogs; if you are on social media would you be willing to join me in temporarily changing your profile pic to a frog? That way Kayleb and his family will know when they see a frog on Twitter, tumblr, Facebook, etc that this is a person who supports and believes in them. With so many people in power trying to twist things and mischaracterize Kayleb and the events that transpired, the family could really use your prayers and support!
Please send all the positive thoughts you can muster for Kayleb's court date tomorrow, and thanks to all of you for your support and your sincere desire for #JusticeForKayleb!
