Yesterday, we took our calls for justice to NSW Parliament, to share Dougie's story in the hope that a coronial inquest will be called into his death. We want to thank all of you for standing alongside our family as we demand #JusticeForDougie.
Our next goal is 15,000 signatures, and with your help we know this is possible. You can click here to share the petition.
Right now, the most important thing our family needs is for the NSW Attorney General to open an inquest into Dougie’s death. Racial prejudice by hospital staff led to our son's avoidable death, and nothing will change until the bias and racism in the NSW health system is properly addressed by the government.
Thank you to Sue Higginson, NSW Greens MP for joining us at yesterday’s Press Conference. Sue has written a letter to the NSW Attorney General, asking for a Coronial Inquest into Dougie’s death as a matter of urgency:
“It is unacceptable that anyone receives a substandard level of care in NSW Hospitals and it is an indictment of our treatment and prejudice against First Nations people that they continue to die from preventable disease just hours after being discharged from hospital.
The family of Dougie deserve justice and NSW Health needs this inquest to establish the facts behind this tragic occurrence.”
We cannot wait any longer for the government to act.
