Petition update

Our wombats need your help!

Wombat Awareness Organisation

Oct 8, 2019 —

We have been overwhelmed by your kindness and support. We can not thank you enough x

Whilst we await the outcome of the internal investigation, we also wait in hope of a super reform that prohibits wombats to be killed in such a manner.

This one video has really bought amazing people together to improve the lives of wombats and we have to continue with our job of saving and helping as many wombats as we can.

A number of our supporters, who signed the petition also asked how they could donate as well, knowing that we run our rescue on a shoestring budget. So, over the weekend, we launched an emergency fundraiser. Over the past 15 years, we hand built (our blood, sweat and tears) the largest and only free range wombat sanctuary for the wombats whose home is no longer safe to return to.

We have fed the starved, lobbied against culling, developed treatment plans for disease outbreaks, stood by them during floods and fires and tried save as many lives as we can.

We have 84 precious wombats currently in care and it pains us so much but this drought, the worst on record is relentless. It means the calls for help are coming in thick and fast. The wombats are starving. It’s too terrible.

Hay is scarce and super expensive and many of the wombats are too emaciated to recover if left over Summer, we have to bring them into care. However, it takes a massive strain on our rescue, already struggling.

We are asking for urgent help. This is a genuine plea. There are hundreds of properties with wombats needing food. It is a huge project we need to undertake but WE CARE! We need to raise funds to make sure we can secure enough hay to feed the wombats and to provide the necessary treatment to save their lives from starvation.

$25 funds a bag of pellets for 1 wombat for a week.

Can you donate just $5? It’s just the cost of your next cup of coffee in the morning but one that will help save our wombats from starvation and give us ammunition to lobby our governments to change the laws to protect our precious wombat.
