Anthony Bain, who killed another road user was found not guilty of dangerous driving in August 2022 (R vs Bain). He will go to jail for less than 3 months. Questions will remain as to whether he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs because Bain fled the scene and spent the night at a party. This reflects a flawed and outdated justice system that allows for perpetrators of road crime to flee the scene and then not be held to account. People like Bain, a recidivist road offender, on an Intensive Corrections Order (ICO) probably shouldn't be allowed on the road. Indeed, are ICOs effective?
