This morning, the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission voted to temporarily ban all sloth imports into Florida. This emergency rule was passed directly because of the 50+ sloths that died under Sloth World’s care.
This is the first real acknowledgment from the state that the system failed ... badly.
But let’s be clear:
This is not justice.
No arrests
No charges
No public filings
No accountability
The only confirmed law‑enforcement action so far is that the Orange County Sheriff’s Office told reporters on May 7 that it is assisting with an animal‑welfare investigation. That’s it. No documents. No case number. No legal action.
So while the import ban is a step in the right direction, it’s not a victory — it’s a reaction.
A reaction to 55 preventable deaths. A reaction to public pressure. A reaction to the fact that the zoo is now caring for the survivors because no one else would.
We keep going. We keep pushing. We don’t call this a win until there are actual consequences for the people responsible.
